Another Yabonga Youth Soccer Tournament

Yabonga hosted the second youth soccer tournament this year at Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha on the 6th of October 2011.
All the 12 youth centers participated in this tournament and it was one of the best tournaments we ever hosted. The kids were fully prepared for this event and the youth counsellors who act as coaches motivated and celebrated the players tirelessly.
There were ten teams that took part in this tournament and with the assistance from the Out of School youth working with the players everything went smoothly. There were three (client-) volunteers from Nyanga, Phumlani and Vuyani support centers to assist, two ladies helped cooking and feeding the kids and one young man from Phumlani assisted in making sure that the kids are save. He acted as the security of the day and he guarded the gate only letting Yabonga youth and staff enter the field. Our American interns Laura and Catherine as well as the German volunteer Carl kept the youth who were not playing entertained with games and songs.
The kids had fruits and biscuits as snacks in between and as it was hot they had to drink lots and lots of water. For lunch the Youth Mum and her helpers prepared sausages in rolls and there were more that enough for everyone.
Thumps up the youth coaches - especially the Vuyani and Nyanga lady coaches whose girl teams were shining on the day.
Transport and catering was organised well and everyone arrived and left on time. This was a well organized and successful tournament and lots of fund was had by all!
